Monash University Employment and Career Development provides a comprehensive employment and careers services to all Monash students. Postgraduates are welcome to make an appointment for a one-to-one session with a careers counsellor on any career-related concern.

Health, Wellbeing and Development - the HUB

Postgraduate-specific services

Counselling from staff with specialist knowledge of:

  • the supervisor student relationship;

  • returning to study after being in the work-force;

  • work-life-family balance;

  • adjusting to a new country, culture shock and global awareness;

  • personal development seminars for postgraduate students, eg time and stress management, handling difficult situations;

  • provision of seminars and workshops in response to postgraduate requests :”Design-a-workshop”;

  • confidential assistance with anxiety, depression and personal issues including relationship difficulties.

International students are encouraged to seek assistance from a Student Advisor about any issues including settling in and making cultural adjustments to life in Australia, visa matters, ESOS regulations and overseas student health cover. Programs available include language and cultural exchange programs, mentoring and friendship programs. There are Student Advisors on all six campuses.

Information Technology Services (ITS)

Library

Postgraduate-specific services

  • Assistance from librarians, well equipped with subject or discipline expertise in finding and using information;

  • An increased number of loan items (up to 40 items at a time) from the comprehensive research collection;

  • A document delivery service, locating material from another library or information provider if required material is not available in the Monash collection;.

  • Training and online tutorials in the use of EndNote;

  • Archiving of postgraduates’ research output and promotion through the ARROW Repository;

  • Assistance from learning skills advisers, with particular expertise in academic writing, study and communication, including: - individual appointment-based support for higher degree research students;,

  • ·seminars and workshops, including those run in conjunction with the MPA and MRGS: and drop-in sessions open to all students;

  • Online language and learning resources, including resources for off-campus and research students;

  • Specific resources for HDR students.

The library has a range of specific services, tools and resources to support postgraduates in addition to the general services offered.

Live Library support

The library has a help service using online chat so you can get immediate help for many library queries from anywhere you have access to the web. The service hours are usually from 12 noon to 9pm Monday to Friday

During May the chat service will be open for extended hours so that they can test a different online chat software product. This will be available from 10am-12 noon Monday to Friday. So for 4 weeks starting Monday May 4th, if you need help from 10am and 9pm Monday to Friday you will be able log on to the Library Online chat help service either using the trial software or the regular chat service.
