Top five eExam Tips

The MGA team wishes you all the best with your upcoming exams! Here are the top five tips compiled by the MGA advocacy and academic support team!

#1: Read the rules

Read the eExams rules and instructions before your exam! If you breach a rule or instruction, you may get into trouble with the University. Read all about eExams rules here:

#2: Make sure you know the practical details

Think about all the details you need to know about your eExams. Here are some ideas to get you going:

  • Make sure you understand how the exam will be conducted.
  • Make sure your device is charged and compatible with the e-exam platform.
  • Practise interacting with the exam platform and make sure you’re familiar with it. You can learn about the exam platform and access an example exam at this link.
  • If your exam is at home, make sure to clean up your surroundings for your environment check. – Log in half an hour before your exam is due to commence.

#3: Communication is key

Use the “raise hand” icon to communicate with the invigilator right away if an emergency comes up or you are having technical issues during the exam. They can submit a report that can be used to support a special consideration application.

Also, don’t hit mute on your invigilator! Instead turn your volume up high so you can hear the examiner’s briefing, time warning or chat message.

#4: Technical help and support is available

If you have any technical problems during your exam, call the Service Desk immediately and make sure you speak to someone. Here is the link:

#5 Ask for a nurse if you feel sick during an exam

If you get sick during the exam, use the ‘raise hand’ icon to ask for medical help.

On-campus eExams:

  • For eExams with online supervision: Click the Raise Hand button to request medical support from your online supervisor – they’ll get a registered nurse to attend to you.
  • For eExams without online supervision: Raise your hand to alert on-site support staff and they’ll arrange for medical support staff to attend to you.

Off-campus eExams:

  • For eExams with online supervision: Click the Raise Hand button to request medical support from your online supervisor – they’ll get a registered nurse to call you on your mobile phone.
  • eExams without online supervision: If you’re unable to continue with your eExam due to illness, you may be eligible for special consideration. You need to submit an application along with supporting documentation within two days of your final assessment.

If possible, see your doctor afterwards and obtain a medical certificate explaining you were ill during the exam for which you seek special consideration.
