Background
I am a Tharawal woman from South-West Sydney. I grew up in Minto, Campbelltown, New South Wales. I commenced a Master of Arts (Research) in Criminology. I completed my BA in 2013 and BA (Honours) in 2015.
I was a Flight Attendant with Qantas for 13 years. My previous role was the Indigenous Academic Engagement Coordinator at Yulendj Indigenous Engagement Unit, Monash University for 2 years and now I am an Assistant Lecturer in Criminology, School of Social Sciences, Faculty of Arts, Monash University.
I commenced my undergraduate (BA) mid-semester 2009. While working full time with Qantas, I completed this degree in 2013. I commenced my Honours in Criminology and completed the same year, 2015. In 2018, I commenced my Master of Arts in Criminology and should see a finish year of 2020.
I was interested in joining the MGA as my role in Yulendj was working mainly in the Undergrad area. There seemed to be a gap with engagement of Aboriginal graduate students, sharing stories and knowledge, which is a huge part of Aboriginal culture, in general. I would like to address this and work collaboratively with each area within the MGA so we can share our stories and knowledge with all Postgrad students.
Greater engagement and understanding of Aboriginal knowledge for graduate students, so when we all finish our PG degrees, there is some knowledge and understanding of what it means to be Aboriginal and to be able to go to spaces around Australia and identify and communicate with the local communities.
This is my second term serving as President of the MGA and I am incredibly excited for the challenge! I feel like I have a lot to offer the graduate student community as I am very enthusiastic and love helping people. I am a big advocate for inclusion and this has been a great opportunity for me to represent the Aboriginal graduate students so we have a voice in the initial process of policies and decision making regarding and ideas we would like to see around the University. It is also an opportunity to address any issues we have or questions we would like answered.
Personal Interests
I love to travel and learn about other cultures.
